Lotus Domino for IBM i - "Error: Unable to map shared memory because of 2 libnotes versions" While Executing CFGDOMSVR

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem

While executing the IBM i CL command CFGDOMSVR to create a Lotus Domino Server on an IBM i System, the following error appears in the 5250 session emulator:

"This process 123456/USER/QPADEV0001 is unable to map shared memory because of two libnotes versions. Please refer to the documentation on how to fix it.
Press ENTER to end terminal session."

After pressing ENTER to end the terminal session, you discover that the Domino Server was not created and the CFGDOMSVR command ends abnormally.

Cause

Orphaned shared memory segments or semaphores are causing the error to occur. These may or may not be owned by the QNOTES User Profile, which may require an IPL of the IBM i System to remove. Contact IBM Lotus Support for assistance with removing the orphaned shared memory segments and/or semaphores.

Resolving the problem

To resolve the problem, the orphaned shared memory segments and/or semaphores must be removed which can be done via an IPL.

There are several alternative methods of removing orphaned shared memory segments & semaphores which do not require an IPL. However, those methods can be extremely complex. Therefore, open a service request with IBM support for assistance with the alternative methods to solve the problem if you cannot IPL:
