Technote (troubleshooting)
Problem
Starting in version 8.5.1, a new Spell Check engine used by Lotus Notes is also used by the embedded Lotus Symphony tools and the embedded Lotus Sametime client. Additional language dictionaries for the new spell check engine are available in UpdateSite_xx.zip files, where 'xx' is the language code.
NOTE: The "Legacy Spell Checker" feature still utilizes .dic files.
Resolving the problem
You can obtain additional language dictionaries for the new spell checker engine from either the Lotus Notes 8.5.1 CD or from Passport Advantage Online. See below for details.
| Obtain files from CD |
1. Ensure that the client will allow updates, by checking the com.ibm.notes.branding/enable.update.ui parameter, which is stored in the plugin_customizations.ini (stored in the \Notes\framework\rcp folder). This should be set to the value of "true":
com.ibm.notes.branding/enable.update.ui=true
2. In the Notes Client, go to File > Application > Install, check on Search for new features to install, click Next and choose Add Zip/Jar Location.
Note: If the "Install" option is still missing, please refer to the following technote for more guidance on adding the "Install" option:
File - Application - Install menu options missing from Notes client
3. Browse to the folder on the Lotus Notes CD-ROM: Apps\Dictionaries\XTAF\
4. Select the language dictionary file you want to install (for example, select updateSite_de.zip, if you want to install German language dictionary)
5. Select "OK" and then "Finish"
The installation process will begin, and once it completes, you can choose "Restart Now" to take effect immediately.
