  • Usage of the proper command to untar the installation tar files
The default tar command available on AIX-6.1 machine doesn't handle files with path lengths greater than 100 characters well. When using this command, some of the files are truncated, as seen in the screen capture below. All the files in this directory are expected to end in .jar. But, as can be seen in green, some file names have been truncated.

In order to address this issue, you will need to download and install a new version of the tar command on the system. where the Common Agent is to be installed. It is recommended you use the tar  command found on this link which is hosted by IBM:

From the link, and on the box in the right, click on  Alphabetically, then search for "tar" on the page. Download and install the tar command. You can now use the command to extract the binaries from the tar file. Please verify that the files are not truncated before proceeding to the next step.
