Recovery Manager: Log file is Full errors when compacting a database into DAOS
|
| | | | Problem | | Customer experiencing heavy performance-related problems that is due to locks on databases during the process of compaction into DAOS. | | | | Symptom | | One such error the customer may see is the error relating to the log file is full by DAOSCAT.NSF:
[090C:0002-0AA0] Recovery Manager: Log File Full: Func=hlgWriteLogRecord File=rm\rmlogger.cpp:683 [D:\IBM\Lotus\Domino\data\daoscat.nsf 435778]
Deleting and re-syncing this database does not resolve the issue. | | | | | | Resolving the problem | The problem can occur when compacting any database into DAOS that has at least one object. When Domino compacts the database, Domino takes a lock on the source database. Then, when copying into the temp file, each time Domino creates a DAOS object, Domino updates the daoscat.nsf.
The problem is that currently these writes to the daoscat.nsf are not committed until Domino releases the lock on the source database. So if there is a lot of other activity on the server during the duration of the compact, the log can fill up.
In one case, the customer experienced this issue when this command was issued: load compact -c -ZU -DAOS on mail\example.nsf
The act of converting attachments to LZ1 can lead to problems under certain circumstances.
In this case, attachment was re-compressed in place so if the new version of the attachment does not save space, then the attachment is rolled back to the previous state. This whole process is logged in the .TXN files. This is most common with files that do not compress well, such as zip files. When this happens to a large attachment it can lead to the log is full condition especially if there is a lot of other activity on the server. Work-around: Do not enable DAOS and convert attachments to LZ1 at the same time.
This problem is documented in SPR # DROO7XBS9B and will be addressed in Domino 8.5.2. | | | | | | | | |
