J2CA0027E error in SystemOut.log when accessing Portal login

Problem

Unable to access the Portal login screen and seeing a J2CA0027E error as well as com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The transaction log for database 'release' is full.

Symptom

Cause

The database transaction log has become very large and has run out of space.

Environment

This error can be seen when using SQL Server 7.0, SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005

Resolving the problem

Following the steps provided in the article below the client was able to resolve the issue.

The client took a backup of the release database and set the recovery model to simple. The file size went down drastically from 56MB to 5MB also I changed the setting in the db to allow growth.
