CCRC proxy settings are not honored in Eclipse 3.3 and beyond

Question & Answer

Question

When using CCRC with Eclipse version 3.3 (or later), why are my http proxy settings only being used some of the time?

Cause

As of Eclipse 3.3, the mechanism Eclipse uses for storing and applying its own http proxy settings has changed. This new mechanism conflicts with that used by CCRC. This issue also affects applications based on Eclipse 3.3 and later, such as Rational Application Developer.

Answer

In order to work around this problem, the CCRC http proxy settings in the Window->Preferences->Team->ClearCase Remote Client->Connections dialog and the Eclipse http proxy settings in the Window->Preferences->General->Network Connections must both be set to the same values.
