Problem(Abstract)
Windows services control panel (services.msc) is used to stop the services during an update or rollback of IBM Rational products, but on Microsoft Windows 2000, if this panel is left open during an update or rollback operation the service fails and is left in an inoperable state. This will cause an error when IBM Installation Manager tries to reinstall that service during the update or rollback operation.
Symptom
The action fails with the following error:
The "RationalProjectConsoleCollectionServer" Service could not be removed.Please consult IBM Installation Manager logs for additional information.
failed to create service for WebSphere Application server version 6.1.0.23
The "RationalProjectConsoleDashboardServer" Service could not be installed.Please consult IBM Installation Manager logs for additional information.
The "RationalProjectConsoleReportServer" Service could not be installed.Please consult IBM Installation Manager logs for additional information.
The "RationalProjectConsoleCollectionServer" Service could not be installed.Please consult IBM Installation Manager logs for additional information.
Resolving the problem
Close the Windows services control panel (services.msc) application after stopping the services and before executing any update or rollback operation.
