"Shared Logon failed with this ID" when attempting to log into Notes
When a user attempts to launch Lotus Notes, Notes Shared Logon fails with the error "Shared Logon failed with this ID", and the user is unable to log into Notes.

For this one case, the cause of this issue was the disappearance of the Secret Binary file, which is used to log users without prompting for their password, and to unlock the current ID. This file is stored in the %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\IBM\Lotus Notes folder.
In another case reported to IBM, the cause of the issue was the Notes Client's inability to write to the remote share, where the user's roaming OS profile was stored.

Look for the presence of the .bin secret file stored in the %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\IBM\Lotus Notes folder
Resolving the problem
For this one case, restoring an ID which was not NSL enabled was the only resolution to this problem.
