How to start or stop IBM Rational DOORS Web Access

Question & Answer

Question

How do you start or stop IBM Rational DOORS Web Access (DWA) on Microsoft Windows?

Cause

DWA components are closely coupled and should be run in a specific sequence.

Answer

Starting Rational DOORS Web Access on Microsoft Windows:

To start the system you must start the processes in the order shown below.

  1. Start the broker by running the file broker.start.bat
    • This file is in the directory where you extracted dwa.zip or installed DWA on the machine hosting the Broker

  2. Start the Rational DOORS Database Server as a service on the machine hosting the database
      1. Click Start > Control Panel
      2. Click Administrative Tools
      3. Click Services
      4. Select the DOORS DB Server service
      5. Click Start Service

  3. Run the Interoperation Server on the machine hosting it with the command line attributes in the following format:

doors.exe –interop –data port@myserver –brokerHost myBroker –brokerPort brokerport

    where:
    • port = the port number the Rational DOORS Database Server is using and myserver is the name of the machine where the Rational DOORS Database Server is installed
    • myBroker = the name of the machine hosting the broker
    • brokerport = the port that the broker is using, by default 61616.

  4. Start the Rational DOORS Web Access Server by running the file server.start.bat
    • This file is in the directory where you extracted dwa.zip or installed DWA on the machine hosting the DWA Server
    • This batch file may be slow to start the first time because the compressed DWA server files need to be unpacked.

Results:

When you start the components in steps 2, 3, and 4, a console window will open for each process.
Do not close these windows.

Shutting down Rational DOORS Web Access on Microsoft Windows:

To shut down the system you must stop the following processes.

  1. Stop the Rational DOORS Web Access Server by running the file server.shutdown.bat
    • This file is in the directory where you extracted dwa.zip on the machine hosting the server
    • The process may take some time to end (15-30 seconds), and may report a number of socket warnings while shutting down

  2. Stop the Interoperation Server using the close window option

  3. Stop the broker by running the file broker.shutdown.bat
    • This file is in the directory where you extracted dwa.zip on the machine hosting the broker
    • The process could take some time to end and may report a number of socket warnings while shutting down

  4. Stop the Rational DOORS Database Server service using the Windows Control Panel
