Install problems on TBSM 4.2.1

 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Included are 3 install issues on TBSM 4.2.1 and their solutions.

Resolving the problem
Problem: OMNIbus installed to “C:\Program Files” for EIF Probe
Description:
When EIF Probe installer is run and OMNIbus is not found to be on the system, the EIF Probe installer installs a small part of OMNIbus to use. The default location of “C:\Program Files” is displayed for the EIF Probe installer and if this is changed to another location, the small part of OMNIbus that is installed is still installed under “C:\Program Files” and not with the rest of the probe files.

Solution:
Installer must have write permissions to C:\Program Files for the installation to succeed.
The probe still functions normally and will uninstall the part of OMNIbus that it has laid down.

Problem:GUI install mode prevents adding TBSM Dashboard subfeatures
Description:
If, using gui mode, an attempt is made to add TBSM Dashboard subfeatures after the TBSM Dashboard has been installed or upgraded, the subfeatures are disabled and can’t be installed.

Solution:
Console or silent mode should be used.
Setup-<platform>.<suffix> -i console
Can be used to launch the installer in the console mode.

Problem: Silent mode ignores OMNIbus on another machine
Description:
When using silent mode for an installation where the response file points to an OMNIbus on another machine, the OMNIbus host value is ignored and the local host is used instead.
After installation, the TBSM Data server will not stay up and connection errors appear in the trace.log file under <installDir>\tip\profiles\TBSMProfile\logs\server1.

Solution:
Use GUI or console mode instead of silent mode or, after installation, follow the procedures for moving the object server to another machine that were provided in the Administration guide under the section “Changing the IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus host and port”
