IBM Rational DOORS 9.2 client silent install using the setup.exe file

Question & Answer

Question

The IBM Rational DOORS 9.2 installation manual has instructions for setting up a silent install for the client as a MSI file but the client setup is actually an EXE file, so is there a difference?

Answer

Yes, the parameters will be different. Following is an example command to run with the DOORS 9.2 client setup.exe to run it in silent install mode:

    setup.exe /s /v"/qn /l*v \"D:\installs\doors\DOORS_92\client\log.txt\" INSTALLDIR=\"C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.2\" CLIENTDATA=\"36690@localhost\" TLLICENSESERVER=\"19353@localhost\" LAPAGREE=\"Yes\"

Please mind that the syntax is case sensitive and as this is merely an example, the values themselves may vary.

  • It is important to note that this command is one line and not several.
  • If the setup.exe (or whatever the name of your install is) is on a network share, there may be problems if the path contains a dash, “-”. If it does, change the name of the share folder or switch the dash to an underscore, “_”
  • If the file is named something other than setup.exe and there are spaces in the filename, remember to put double quotes around the name
