DNS Server Network Error (dns_unresolved_hostname)

Troubleshooting

Problem

When attempting to access Cognos Connection through a fully qualified URL, the following error is returned: DNS Server Network Error (dns_unresolved_hostname)

Diagnosing The Problem

The error is only found when using FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name)

Resolving The Problem

[Steps]
1.Check that that a "hosts" file exists on the user's computer

For example, check c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows 7)
(you may need administrator access for Windows 7)

2. Check Internet Explorer proxy setting
- check if IP address and computer/domain name is correct.
- if they are same, then disable proxy setting:

Internet Explorer --> Tools --> Internet Options --> Connections --> LAN settings ---> De-select 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' - OK
