Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote provides a solution to an Error 1920.Service NuTCRACKER Service when using IBM Rational TestManager.

Symptom

During the installation of Rational TestManager, the following error is encountered and logged in the MSI logs:


    MSI (s) (40:5C) [10:23:24:132]: Product: NutCracker -- Error 1920.Service NuTCRACKER Service (NuTCRACKERService) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
    Error 1920.Service NuTCRACKER Service (NuTCRACKERService) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

Resolving The Problem

One possible cause for this error message is that the Server service is not installed and running on the system in question. The Server service supports file, print, and named-pipe sharing over the network for this computer. The NuTCRACKER service is dependent on the Server Service to be present and running.


The installation of the Server service is dependant on the operating system being used. You can use the following steps as a guide line however your local IT team should be consulted before beginning this process

To install File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks:Open the Local Area Connection window:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Select Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection).
  3. The Local Area Connection Status window opens.
  4. Select the the General tab and click Properties.
  5. The Local Area Connection Properties window opens.
  6. Click Install.
  7. The Select Network Component Type window opens.
  8. Under Click the type of network component you want to install, click Service.
  9. The Select Network Service window opens.
  10. In the list of network clients, select File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks and click OK.
  11. Once the application is installed, the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks item appears in the Local Area Connection Properties window, under This connection uses the following items.
  12. Select File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks by using the corresponding check box on the left.
  13. Click OK.
