Searching by a Checkbox in Advanced Search of Maximo 7

Question & Answer

Question

How can I search by a field that appears as a checkbox in the main tab of an application on the Search More Fields form?

Answer

Checkboxes will not work on the Search More Fields form of Maximo 7, however you can still add a field to search by that column.

In Application Designer, select the application you wish to add a YORN field to the Search More Fields form in.

Select the Edit Dialogs tool bar icon.

Select the Search More Fields dialog.

Select the Control Pallette toolbar icon.

Instead of dragging and dropping a checkbox object, instead drag and drop a textbox into the section of the form you want your field to appear.

Enter the attribute value for your YORN attribute that the checkbox is associated to and change the inputmode to Query.

When Maximo sees that the attribute is a YORN datatype, the field will resize and you will notice a lookup automatically associated to it.

Save the changes.

This functionality allows you to have a null field, or search on a Y or N value which is handled by the Maximo functionality.

This is done because the definition of a YORN field is Y or N with no null values.

In a query situation you need a third state not allowed by a checkbox.

The Maximo functionality described above allows you to have three states: Y, N or not included in the query.
