CWWIM0516E error when creating new groups via administration portlet in virtual portal

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

You create a new realm and assign a new virtual portal to that realm. In creating the new realm, you do not create new default parents for any entity types, so that the default parent values at the top of wimconfig.xml are used for this realm. Now, when you log into this virtual portal and go to the manage users and groups administration portlet, you cannot create new groups.

Cause

The default parent for the group entity type is not within the realm's participating base entry.

Diagnosing the problem

You receive the following error message:

EJPSG0015E: Data Backend Problem
...
CWWIM0516E The default parent for 'Group' entity type cannot be
determined. Verify that the configuration for the 'IBMSampleRealm'
realm is correct.

Resolving the problem

Open the file <wp_profile_root>\ConfigEngine\properties\wkplc.properties.

Under the heading VMM realm configuration, choose one of the following options:

1) If you want to add a participating base entry for the problematic realm that will include the DN of the default parent for the group entity type, set these properties:

realmName
addBaseEntry

and then run the task wp-add-realm-baseentry.

Then, if this is a clustered environment, stop and restart the deployment manager, the node agent(s), and the WebSphere_Portal server for the change to take effect. If this is a stand-alone environment, stop and restart the server1 and WebSphere_Portal servers for the change to take effect.

OR

2) If you want to now set a default parent for the group entity type (specific to the realm in question) to be within the base entry for the problematic realm, set these properties:

realmName
realm.groupParent

and then run the task wp-modify-realm-defaultparents.

Then, if this is a clustered environment, stop and restart the deployment manager, the node agent(s), and the WebSphere_Portal server for the change to take effect. If this is a stand-alone environment, stop and restart the server1 and WebSphere_Portal servers for the change to take effect.

NOTE: You must stop and restart the servers before re-running either of the tasks above for any additional entity types and realms.
