MustGather: Read first for WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition

Troubleshooting

Problem

For collecting data when debugging issues related to the deployment and activation of the WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition image files on an ESX or ESXi Hypervisor machine.

Resolving The Problem

  • For problems related to the VMware ESX or ESXi software, contact VMware technical support directly.

  • For issues related to the deployment and activation of WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition images, run the was_mustgather.sh script located in the following directory. This will collect the needed WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor image logs, WebSphere Application Server logs and SLES operating system logs required by IBM WebSphere Technical Support.

    Run the following as root:

    /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/virtual/service/was_mustgather.sh

The preceding script will gather the required logs and place them in a .zip file, and also a file called proc.tmp:

    /tmp/was_mustgather.zip
    /tmp/proc.tmp

Note: If you have run the was_mustgather.sh script previously, you must either move or delete the previous .zip and .tmp file before running the tool.

The following is a list of files and directories the script collects and includes in the was_mustgather.zip file.

    • WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor image logs
      • /opt/IBM/AE/AR
      • ConfigWAS.traceout
      • ConfigNET.log
      • ConfigPWD.log
      • tuneWAS.log

    • WebSphere Application Server logs
      • /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/properties/version/WAS.product
      • /opt/.ibm/.nif/.nifregistry
      • /opt/ibm/WebSphere/Profiles
      • /logs/manageprofiles/
      • entire .ibm directory

    • SLES operating system logs
      • /var/log
      • boot.msg
      • /etc/ and /etc/sysconfig

Information from the following locations is included in the proc.tmp file:
    • /proc/cpuinfo
    • /proc/meminfo
    • /proc/partitions
    • /proc/mounts
    • /proc/modules
    • /proc/vmstat
    • /home/virtuser
