Duplicate mails received when email is addressed to user in "To" field and group is listed in "cc" field, where user is a member of the group
Duplicate e-mails are received from the internet for a user if the mail is addressed to the user in the "To" field and a group's internet address is in the "cc" field, where the user is a member of the group.
Steps to reproduce
1) Create a user John Smith and a group called as Helpdesk.
2) Populate the internet address of John Smith as "Johnsmith@Acme.com" and for the Helpdesk group as "Helpdesk@Acme.com".
3) Send an e-mail from the internet.
4) In the "To" field, enter Johnsmith@Acme.com, and in the "cc" field enter Helpdesk@Acme.com.
Result: John Smith will get two mails and both mails will have different message ID.
The problem is observed also if the group name is also populated in the "To" field for example, Johnsmith@Acme.com,Helpdesk@Acme.com.
The problem is not observed if the e-mail is sent from an internal user with "To" field as Joh Smith's Notes address and Helpdesk's group Notes address.
Resolving the problem
This issue is now fixed in Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5.1.
Fix details: SPR#VTAI6SBEDC
Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading Notes/Domino.
In Notes/Domino 8.5.1, the following notes.ini parameter has been added:
Description: Eliminates duplicate messages to recipients when the recipient is both on the To or Cc: field and in a group on the To or Cc, for messages coming from the internet. Enabling this setting will cause the FullName of recipients that are successfully looked up by the Router to be eliminated from any Router group expansion results on that same message.
Use the following values to set this variable:
0 - Do not eliminate the recipient's FullName from Router group expansion results
1 - Eliminate the recipient's distinguished FullName from Router group expansion results
2 - Perform another recipient lookup by FullName for verification before eliminating recipient's distinguished FullName from Router group expansion results
