Update on plans for Lotus Notes and Domino 8.0.x maintenance release.
Release 8.0.2 is the last scheduled maintenance release in the Notes and Domino 8.0.x code stream. We are constantly monitoring feedback from our customers and making adjustments to best meet their needs. It is clear that customer focus is on the Notes and Domino 8.5.x release, therefore IBM shifted focus and resources to provide maintenance releases for 8.5.x.
There will not be a Notes/Domino 8.0.3 maintenance release.
We will provide Fix Packs on top of 8.0.2 and continue to support the 8.0.x code stream for a minimum of 5 years, plus an optional 3 year extension for a fee. By moving to a Fix Pack process for Notes and Domino 8.0.2, we will be able to provide fixes in smaller, more frequent packages. This will get fixes to our customers quicker as well as limit the size of the fixes, thus making them easier to manage.
Our plan remains to continue producing both maintenance releases (to get the broader set of fixes), and Fix Packs (to target the high impact fixes that customers need more urgently) for Notes and Domino 8.5.x. The increased focus on the 8.5.x code stream will allow us to address issues from the fast growing Notes and Domino 8.5.x customer base. Issues resolved in the 8.5.x code stream will also be resolved in 8.0.2 through Fix Packs where it makes sense to do so.
The Lotus Notes, iNotes, Domino Designer, and Domino 8.5.x product line is the recommended, incremental progression from 8.0.2. It offers a smooth upgrade path for 8.0.2 customers to gain new and enhanced functionality, additional fixes, and to advance to the latest versions of embedded Sametime, Symphony and Activities components in the Notes 8.5.x client. All with minimal or no new end user training required. Customers' existing business applications continue to work with 8.5.x, while the highly productive and integrated application development environment available for customers to enhance existing or build new applications using the Eclipse-based Domino Designer product. With 8.5.x customers can also realize total cost of ownership savings through lower administration costs (Notes ID vault and Domino Configuration Tuner), reduced disk usage (Domino Attachment and Object Service), and server consolidation.
As with all IBM software products, 8.5 will be supported for a minimum of 5 years with a fee-based option for an additional 3 years. This is well beyond the minimum support cycle for 8.0 which was eligible for end of support September 2012 (2014 with 2 year fee-based extension option).

The intention of this plan is to strike the right balance between providing maintenance vehicles for our 8.0.x customers and enhancing the value proposition of our 8.5.x line while continuing to invest in enhancements to the next major release of Notes and Domino.
