Question
How many Rational ClearQuest licenses are used by ClearQuest Web and ClearCase Remote Client (CCRC) in a ClearQuest enabled ClearCase Unified Change Management (UCM) environment?
 
Answer
Rational ClearQuest licensing follows the User and Host (U + H) model meaning that one license is consumed for one user on one host.
For N ClearQuest users logged into a Change Management (CM) Server (where the value of N corresponds to the number of users), N Rational ClearQuest licenses are consumed. For example, if ten users are logged into a given CM Server, then ten Rational ClearQuest licenses are consumed. This is true regardless of whether the users are working in a ClearQuest enabled UCM context.

For N CCRC users who are using ClearQuest support provided by CCRC and are logged into a given CM Server, N+1 Rational ClearQuest licenses are consumed. Each user consumes a Rational ClearQuest license. An additional license is consumed by the cqrpc and cqintsvr processes started on the CM Server. The cqrpc and cqintsvr processes are used by the server to fulfill requests on behalf of the ClearQuest users. These processes run as SYSTEM on Windows and as root on the UNIX system and Linux. Because all of these processes run as the same user (that is, SYSTEM or root), they will consume one license. For example, if there are ten users logged into a given CM Server, 11 ClearQuest licenses are used. This is true regardless of whether each user is working in a ClearQuest enabled UCM context.
