"License server system does not support this feature" when importing license for Rational Performance Tester

Troubleshooting


Problem

"UNSUPPORTED" or "BLANK" feature FLEXlm errors occur in IBM Rational License key Server after importing a new Virtual Tester license for IBM Rational Performance Tester (RPT).

Symptom

You have imported a Virtual Tester license into IBM Rational License Key Administrator or manually pasted the INCREMENT block for the license into the license.dat file. After doing so, you see the following messages in the FLEXlm lmgrd.log file.

Although you seem to have imported the license key successfully, you cannot run tests with more than five (5) Virtual Users. The error messages in the lmgrd.log file show that the various Virtual Tester features are not supported or show blank features messages.

Cause

Possible causes are the following.

  • The license server is not up to date and does not support the features.

  • The feature lines do not exist into the license file itself.

Resolving The Problem

  1. Update to the latest version of the IBM Rational License Key Server.

  2. Verify that the relevant rational_server_*.dat file for Windows or <license>.dat file for UNIX contains the feature lines highlighted in this solution.


Note:
Rational License Key Server is backward compatible and works with older Rational software versions as well.

For older versions of the Rational software add the following feature lines. You want to use the Virtual Tester licenses and a matching version of the Rational License Key Server, Use a text editor to add the feature lines at the beginning of the license file.

Place the following lines before the server information and INCREMENT blocks.
