Perl scripts cannot connect to MySQL via Unix socket

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Why can't my Perl script connect to the Lotus Foundations MySQL database?

Answer

The default connection method for localhost MySQL connections is to use a Unix socket. The Perl installation included with Lotus Foundations is unable to connect to MySQL using this method. To work around this limitation, use 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost when specifying the MySQL connection details.
