Configure the Tivoli Storage Manager client V5.5 or later for resource manager on Windows

Technote (FAQ)

Question

If the Tivoli Storage Manager settings in the resource manager database table RMCONFIGURATION do not point to the correct location, you will have unpredictable results when you use the system administration program to define Tivoli Storage Manager volumes or when the resource manager attempts to access the Tivoli Storage Manager server.

Answer

On Microsoft Windows with a Tivoli Storage Manager client earlier than Version 5.5, when you are using the Tivoli Storage Manager API in the resource manager, you must set the environment variable DSMI_DIR to point to %TSM installation directory%\api. Starting with Tivoli Storage Manager client Version 5.5, the configuration is different.

For Tivoli Storage Manager client Version 5.5 or later, in the RMCONFIGURATION table on the resource manager database, set the environment variable DSMI_DIR to the directory where the client message file dscenu.txt is located. By default, the file is located at %TSM installation directory%\baclient.

For example, set DSMI_DIR as:

PROPERTYNAME PROPERTYVALUE  What this value does
DSMI_DIR C:\tsm\baclient Points to the directory where the client message file dsc*.txt is located.
