FAQ – Migration from TUP and Suites to Rational Lifecycle Package

Product lifecycle

Abstract

This technote provides details regarding the End of Market and migration for IBM Rational Team Unifying Platform (TUP) and IBM Rational Suites.

Content

What happened to IBM Rational Team Unifying Platform and IBM Rational Suites? IBM Rational has repackaged TUP and all Suite offerings sold under Passport Advantage. We have announced End of Market (EOM) of TUP and Suites and have released two new bundles that include the strategic products.
The effective date of the EOM was 13 Feb 2009 and the EOM applies to the following offerings:

  • IBM Rational Team Unifying Platform
  • IBM Rational Suite
  • IBM Rational DevelopmentStudio for UNIX
  • IBM Rational Suite for Technical Developer

The new packages that were released are:

  • IBM Rational Lifecycle Package with ClearCase
  • IBM Rational Lifecycle Package

When was TUP and Suite EOM?

The End of Market (EOM) was announced on 28 October, 2008 and the EOM effective date was 13 February, 2009, which is the last date the product was shipped.

Why is IBM removing TUP/Suites from the market place?

TUP and Suites currently contain both strategic and non-strategic products. This is a necessary step in the transition of the bundle offerings to continue progress with strategic products.

Are there replacement products for TUP and Suite?

There are 2 new offerings in place of TUP and Suites:

  1. IBM Rational Lifecycle Package with ClearCase (RLPwCC) is an offering bundle that contains:
    • IBM Rational ClearCase
    • IBM Rational ClearQuest
    • IBM Rational RequisitePro
    • IBM Rational Method Composer

  2. IBM Rational Lifecycle Package (RLP) is an offering that contains
    • IBM Rational ClearQuest
    • IBM Rational RequisitePro
    • IBM Rational Method Composer

Why is there not a new offering that includes Rational Professional Bundle?

IBM Rational Professional Bundle has been in the market place for 4 years to meet the modeling and quality needs of customers. We believe having a desktop bundle, Rational Professional Bundle and a team bundle, Rational Lifecycle Package will meet the needs of our customers

Is RLPwCC and RLP available (GA)?

RLPwCC 7.1 and RLP 7.1 became eGA at the same time as IBM Rational ClearCase 7.1, IBM Rational ClearQuest 7.1 and IBM Rational RequsitePro 7.1, which was 24 November 2008. See Announcement

I own TUP licenses, what happens to my entitlement?

IBM will automatically migrate each TUP customer entitlement that is active on maintenance, to one entitlement for Rational Lifecycle Package with ClearCase (RLPwCC) and one entitlement of SoDA. The Rational SoDA version 7.0.2 offering will include ProjectConsole 7.0.2. The same entitlement migration logic applies to Suite customers. See Table 1 for the migration mapping to individual products.

Is there a cost to the migration to RLPwCC?

There is no trade up fee, but the maintenance fee will be changed to reflect the maintenance fees of individual products. Upon the maintenance renewal anniversary date, customers will be charged a maintenance fee for each entitlement separately. Customers not using a particular individual product, such as SoDA/PjC, may choose to renew, or not to renew, maintenance on any number of those licenses. The same methodology is applied for migration to the Suites.

I want to reduce the maintenance fee, what can do?

There are several options to reducing the overall maintenance fee. After the migration to the entitlement for RLPwCC and the entitlement for the appropriate individual products, you can determine which products you use and which you do not use. You can elect to stop paying maintenance on the entitlements you do not use, thereby reducing the overall maintenance cost. Another option is, when you also have an entitlement to full ClearCase, you can trade up the ClearCase licenses to RLPwCC license providing with more capability. Alternatively you can elect to stop paying maintenance on the ClearCase licenses, reducing the total ownership fees. You could also change your entitlement from Rational Lifecycle Package with ClearCase to Rational Lifecycle Package. Contact your renewal representative to implement any of these options.

Will CQTM (ClearQuest Test Manager) be supported in the ClearQuest 7.1

Yes.

I use TestManager extensively from IBM Rational Team Unifying Platform. Should I transition to CQTM package?

Migrating from TestManager to CQTM is an option. A more strategic approach is to contact your renewal/sales representative to discuss options to migrating to IBM Rational Quality Manager, which became Generally Available on 19 December 2008. See Announcement

Is the migration to the individual products automatic?

The migration will be automatic upon maintenance renewal anniversary date.

Can I elect to migrate before my maintenance renewal date

Yes, you can elect to migrate before your renewal anniversary date. Contact your renewals representative migrate before your renewal date.

I don’t use ClearCase so what are my migrations options?

Rational Team Unifying Platform and Rational Suite Family customers will be automatically migrated to an entitlement to Rational Lifecycle Package with ClearCase and other individual products as applicable. If you do not use ClearCase you can change your entitlement from Rational Lifecycle Package with ClearCase to Rational Lifecycle Package. Contact your renewal representative to change the entitlement.

What is the migration from the individual products like Rose, Robot and SoDA?

Migration from the individual products to the follow on strategic products is managed by the individual products. See Rose Migrations
