Customer Receives a flurry of abends and the error message
IST496E CACHE TIMER FUNCTION INOPERATIVE DUE TO ABEND
Cause
The IST496E message is issued after there have been four abends in the Cache Timer Routine. CACHETI is cleared and the message is issued to alert the operator of the high abend count..
Resolving the problem
Review abend dumps to determine the cause of the abends and resolve that issue.
Cycling VTAM might be required to resolve this.
CACHETI has been cleared, so you have no caching,
Depending upon your network load, sessions will take longer to set up, because there is no 'memory' of where the DLU was found the last time it set up.
