IST1412I message issued by VTAM with codes 7656 and 7657

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

VTAM has 3172 channel attached PUs that are INOPing with messages IST1411I and IST1412I. Sessions to downstream LUs fail.

Cause

The INOP code 7656 occurs when the downstream PU sends a disconnect to the adapter. The INOP code 7657 occurs when the 3172 detects that the T1 timer has expired and sends a close station to VTAM. Messages issued by VTAM for both codes indicate that there is network congestion. The adapter and the downstream PU are both detecting problems.

Resolving the problem

You must apply patch PLXX144A to the 3172 to correct the problem. The fix sets the T1 timer to 10 seconds. If not using a 3172, check the value you have coded for the T1 timer. Also check for network congestion.
