Problem
This document documents issues that can cause a NAS NDMP backup to fail with error ANR4794E.
Symptom
A NAS NDMP backup fails with the following error logged in the server activity log:
ANR4794E The NAS file server filer.domain.com failed to open an NDMP data connection to the TSM tape server.Please verify that the file server is capable of outbound data connections.
Environment
NAS NDMP backup using Tivoli Storage Manager server
Resolving The Problem
The following items need to be checked to resolve the issue:
- A correct hostname entry in Tivoli Storage Manager Server's /etc/hosts file. For example:
Tivoli Storage Manager server hostname:TSMServ1
Tivoli Storage Manager server IP: 1.12.123.155
The following entry should exits in /etc/hosts:
1.12.123.155 TSMServ1
If TSMServ1 is assocated with a different IP in /etc/hosts, add the following option in dsmserv.opt to force the correct mapping:
NDMPPREFDATAINTERFACE 1.12.123.155
- If a firewall exists between the tsm server and NAS filer, the ports defined in NDMPportrange need to be opened on the firewall.
- Ensure a correct network routing on filer. For example, assuming that the following datamover is defined as follows on the Tivoli Storage Manager server:
Data Mover Name: DataMover1
Type: NAS
HLAddress: 1.123.12.5
LLAddress: 10000
The HLAddress: 1.123.12.5 is the NAS filer IP used in the NDMP operation.
