Opening Rational product on remote computer results in FLEXlm licensing errors

Steps to reproduce:

1. Connect to remote computer through Remote Desktop, a Terminal Server client, or another remote control software.
2. Start Rational product.

Expected result: Rational product run with no error.

Actual result: Error messages appear.

The full error message is as follows:

Failed to check out a key for Robot:
FLEXlm Error - 103, Terminal Server remote client not allowed.
FLEXlm Error - 15, Cannot connect to license server.

Failed to check out a key for Test Studio:
FLEXlm Error - 5, No such feature exists.
FLEXlm Error - 15, Cannot connect to license server.

The error might occur when the remote computer has an Authorized User (AU) license (formerly called a node-locked license) for the Rational product. The License Key Administrator of the remote computer, where you installed the Rational product, tries to connect to a license server. However, the Rational product only works with a floating license, when you control that computer remotely. In other words, the Rational product starts only if it discovers a floating license on a license server.

You have two options to resolve the problem.

• Solution #1:

  Run the Rational product locally with the AU license.
  
  

• Solution #2:

  Run the Rational product remotely with a floating license.
  To purchase a floating license, you need to contact your IBM sales representative.
