Repocopy fails to export, with DB2 SQL error: SQLCODE: -443, SQLSTATE:38553

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

TPC's Repocopy script fails to export TPCDB from DB2. Upon execution, the repocopy script will log the following SQL exception:
DB2 SQL error: SQLCODE: -443, SQLSTATE:38553, SQLERRMC: SYSIBM.SQLTABLES;TABLES;SYSIBM:CLI:-805

Symptom

TPC's Repocopy script will log the following messages and exceptions, and will fail to export the TPCDB database from DB2:

Import/Export: Connected to: UDB
Import/Export: URL: jdbc:db2://localhost:50000/TPCDB
Import/Export: Class: com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver
Import/Export: Database: TPCDB
Import/Export: User: tpcadmin
Import/Export: Options:
Import/Export: Directory: <user_specified_path>
Import/Export: Delimiter: ,
Import/Export: Quote: "
com.ibm.db2.jcc.c.SqlException: DB2 SQL error: SQLCODE: -443, SQLSTATE:
38553, SQLERRMC: SYSIBM.SQLTABLES;TABLES;SYSIBM:CLI:-805

Cause

This is usually caused by maintenance applied to the DB2 software that was not properly bound to the instance DB2 instance, and can normally be solved by following the procedure outlined below.

Resolving the problem

This problem can be solved by following these steps:

1) CD to SQLLIB\bnd directory and bring up a DB2 command line:
C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\bnd > db2cmd

2) From db2 command line, issue the following command:
C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\bnd >db2 terminate
---> you should see the following output:
DB20000I The TERMINATE command completed successfully.

3) C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\bnd >db2 connect to TPCDB
---> you should see the following output:
Database Connection Information
Database server = DB2/NT 8.2.7
SQL authorization ID = ADMINIST...
Local database alias = TPCDB

4) C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\bnd >db2 bind db2schema.bnd blocking all grant public sqlerror continue
---> you should see the following output:
LINE MESSAGES FOR db2schema.bnd
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
SQL0061W The binder is in progress.
SQL0091N Binding was ended with "0" errors and "0" warnings.

5) C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\bnd >db2 terminate
DB20000I The TERMINATE command completed successfully.
C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\bnd >

At this point, the repocopy utility should run successfully.

Note: These instructions are Windows-specific and assume a default DB2 installation. All directories referenced should be edited for AIX/Linux environments by substituting C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB with /home/db2inst1/sqllib/ (assuming a default db2 installation). If non-default paths were used on any platform, you'll need to adjust accordingly.

If the repocopy utility still fails after following this procedure, then please collect a db2support package following the instructions found here. This will be needed by TPC/DB2 support to determine the cause of this problem.
