Problem

User launches Controller. User receives error message.

Description:
The VB Application identified by the event source logged this Application FrangoDirect: Thread ID: 1924 ,Logged: Error occured at 9/16/2008 1:30:14 PM in FrangoDirect, Error No=-2147467259, Source=FrangoDirect.ServerInfoD.GetServerInfo#FrServerB.ServerInfo.GetServerInfo, Description=[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified, HelpFile= HelpContext=0

Cause

Controller COM+ components were not registered correctly. This is possibly due to:

  • Incorrect settings (usernames/groups) chosen during installation wizard
  • Existing 'ancillary' COM+ application (for example FRANGOVFP or COGNOSVFP) not correctly deleted *before* the main application was uninstalled/re-installed.

Environment

Controller 2.x has recently been installed on the server.

Resolving The Problem

  1. Logon to Controller application server, as an administrator
  2. Delete any existing COM+ application (for example COGNOSVFP)
  3. Uninstall Controller (via Add/Remove Programs)
  4. Re-install Controller, using best practice documentation as a guide.
