Uninstalling ClearQuest 7.1 on Windows

Question & Answer

Question

How do you uninstall IBM Rational ClearQuest version 7.1 on Microsoft Windows platforms?

Answer

The steps below will explain how to uninstall Rational ClearQuest version 7.1 using IBM Installation Manager.

Important Note: Attempting to uninstall ClearQuest without using Installation Manager first will prevent you from being able to install ClearQuest on that workstation in the future.

Instructions:

You must first use Installation Manager to uninstall ClearQuest on the workstation or server. This is to ensure Installation Manager reflects that the products are no longer installed. If you need assistance with the uninstall, refer to the Uninstalling products, packages, and updates topic in the Installation Manager Information Center.

If this uninstall completes successfully you are done and NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED. Only proceed if the install was not successful. If the uninstall left files behind you should leave them there. If you feel you must delete them you will be required to uninstall all products which could be a lot of work and therefore its safer to just leave the files behind. If you only want to uninstall just ClearQuest you should ignore any files that are left behind and not follow any more steps in this technote. This technote is only for those that want to totally remove ClearQuest as well as any other products installed.

About the next steps:

  • Only proceed if the uninstall was not successful.

  • If other Rational Team products are still installed, you MUST uninstall them using Installation Manager before you proceed. If you have other Rational Team products still installed and there are files left behind from the ClearQuest uninstall, it is easier to just leave the files.

    The Rational Team products include:
    • Rational ClearCase
    • Rational ProjectConsole
    • Rational RequisitePro
    • Rational Robot
    • Rational SoDA
    • Rational TestManager

  1. Stop the CM Server services:

    1. Open a command prompt.

    2. Change directory to <clearquest install directory>\common\CM\profiles\cmprofile\bin

    3. Run stopserver.bat server1

    4. Change directory to <clearquest install directory>\common\eWAS\bin

    5. Run wasservice.exe -remove cmprofile

  2. Uninstall IBM Websphere Application Server:

    1. Change Directory to <clearquest install directory>\common\eWAS\uninstall

    2. Run uninstall.exe.

    3. Follow the InstallShield prompts to uninstall WAS. Make sure to check the box Delete all profiles.

  3. Uninstall IBM HTTP Server:

    1. Change directory to <clearquest install directory>\common\IHS\uninstall

    2. Run uninstall.exe.

    3. Follow the install shield prompts to uninstall IHS.

  4. Uninstall the IBM HTTP Server Update Installer:

    1. Change directory to <clearquest install directory>\common\IHS_updateinstaller\uninstall

    2. Run uninstall.exe.

    3. Follow the install shield prompt to uninstall the IHS Update Installer.

  5. Remove the ClearQuest installation directory:

    1. Run the command rmdir /q /s <clearquest install directory>

    2. If this fails, skip this step and continue.

  6. Delete the registry entries for ClearQuest.

    1. Click Start > Run. Run the command regedit.exe

    2. Delete the registry keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Rational Software\ClearQuest and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rational Software\ClearQuest. On any 64-bit hosts, particularly Windows 2008 Server and Windows Vista, also check for and delete the registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Software\Rational Software\ClearQuest

    3. If there are no other Rational Products installed, delete the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Rational Software\Licensing\2.0.

  7. Reboot the machine.

Additional Notes:

  • If the install directory removal in step 5 fails, try to remove the install directory again. If this fails, rename the directory.

  • During an uninstall there are preserved files at the root of the install drive, in a folder called Rational.preserve. Starting in 7.1.1, there is also a Rational.preserve folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IBM. These files will be used on a subsequent install, so if you want a clean installation, you should rename these folders before installing. However, never delete this folder, as it contains configuration files that can be of use to you after you reinstall.

  • On Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 the files are located at the root of the install drive and under "C:\ProgramData\IBM".
