ORA-12505 TNS, listener could not resolve SID, given in the connection descriptor

when attempting to connect to an Oracle datasource.

Resolving the problem

This is an Oracle error message. Confirm that a successful connection can be made in SQL*Plus and NETTEST. Check that the correct entries are present in the tnsnames.ora file (SID=), the oracle.ini file, and confirm that all required Oracle files are installed on the system. If this still fails contact Oracle or your vendor for further assistance.

Confirm with the DBA that the correct port number is being used.
