Troubleshooting
Problem
User runs a Controller standard report (also known as a 'system report'). User receives an error.
Symptom
Typically the end user will receive the following error:
Cognos 8
RSV-CM-0004 - The current user does not have the capabilities required to execute the 'runSpecification' operation. Please contact your Administrator.
If CAF is enabled, the end user may receive:
DPR-ERR-2082 An error has occurred. Please contact your Administrator. The complete error has been logged by CAF with SecureErrorID: timestamp-#number.
Cause
There are several potential causes for this error.
- Scenario #1 - The Controller database (which the user is currently using) has not yet been registered inside the Cognos 8 BI report server
- Scenario #2 - User is running an "ad-hoc" report, and is not a member of the group "Controller Administrators".

Resolving The Problem
Scenario #1
- Launch "Controller configuration" and click on the the 'Repair' button in the section 'Report Server' to register the database accordingly.
