Problem
How to enable Concurrent Query Execution to improve report run performance in Cognos 10.2.x?
Environment
Cognos 8.2 (please note the steps in this document may change as the product evolves. Refer to the product documentation for the latest updates to enable concurrent query execution)
Resolving The Problem
"By default, Cognos 8 executes queries in a report sequentially. Depending on the environment, [it] may be able to improve report run performance by enable concurrent query execution. It can be done by setting advanced server properties for the report service, the batch report service, or both. When concurrent query execution is enabled, the report server determines which queries in the report can be run concurrently."
Three parameters that need to be added for the report service, the batch report service, or both:
RSVP.CONCURRENTQUERY.NUMHELPERSPERPROCESS,
RSVP.CONCURRENTQUERY.MAXNUMHELPERSPERREPORT, and
RSVP.CONCURRENTQUERY.ENABLEDFORINTERACTIVEOUTPUT
For the purposes of each parameter and what value should be set, please consult with IBM Cognos 8 BI Administration and Security User Guide Page71, "Set Parameters for concurrent query execution section."
1. In Cognos Connection, in the upper-right corner, click Tools, Server Administration.
2. Click the Monitor tab.
3. Select the Services option.
4. Click the set properties button for the Report or the Batch Report service.
5. Click the Settings tab.
6. Click Edit next to Advanced Settings.
7. Select Override the settings acquired from the parent entry.
8. In the Parameter column, enter a parameter name.
9. In the
Value column, enter the setting that you want to use.
10. Click OK.
11. On the Set properties page, click OK
Turn on concurrent query execution in Report studio
1. In Report studio, mouse over on Query Explorer and select on the query
2. In Properties of Query, find Execution Method under Query Hints section
3. Select Concurrent as the value of Execution Method
4. Save the report
Restart the Cognos 8 service and observe if the report execution is improved.
