Increasing timeout when running a report in a browser

Troubleshooting


Problem

Error The gateway timeout has expired. IWR reside on one server and is not a distributed environment. The event log displays the following: IWR:IWReqMan Text: Socket Error connecting during open failed. Unknown error. Desc: Socket Error connecting during open failed. Unknown error. A report contains a picklist prompt. Shortly after attempting to view it within the browser, the error message occurs. This does not occur with IWR 5.0. The report is personal. The error is generated before the prompt screen displays.

Resolving The Problem

Here are the steps to resolve this issue:

1. Stop the IWR services in the services dialog box.
2. On the server, start a cmd window or dos window.
3. Change to the following directory;
X:\program files\cognos\cer1\bin\
4. Enter the following line:
X:\program files\cognos\cer1\bin\iwrconfig -attr prompttimeout=300000
5. This should change the time out to 5mins or 300000 ms.
6. Attempt to run the report again after you have restarted the services.
7. If you time out again, adjust the prompt timeout.
8. In addition to increasing IWR server prompt timeout via iwrconfig, increase IWR gateway timeout.

In the file \cgi-bin\imrap.ini, edit the following line (time is in milliseconds):
IWRRequestTimeOut=60000
