Reporter Server connection to Oracle fails on Linux

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Why does the Reporter Server give the error:

"GRSqlWkr 0 failed to login to ODBC_MSSQL as repository_two"

when connecting to Oracle on Linux?

Answer

Check that you have correctly configured the odbc.ini file as per the existing Reporter 2.2 Admin Guide, and that the $ODBCINI variable points to it - i.e.

echo $ODBCINI
/opt/netcool/reporter/apache/htdocs/infospc/odbc/odbc.ini

Next, ensure the $INFOHOME/server/dbtype file reads 'ODBC_MSSQL' (pre FP7) or 'ODBC' (post FP7) - eg

[root@monkey server]# cat $INFOHOME/server/dbtype
ODBC_MSSQL

or

[root@monkey server]# cat $INFOHOME/server/dbtype
ODBC

then stop and restart the Reporter processes.

*Please note that 'ODBC_MSSQL' is the expected value if you are running a version previous to v2.2.0.7. After applying the FP0007 patch for Reporter v2.2, the value becomes 'ODBC'. Both values work well, however.*
