Where are the custom emoticon palette files stored in the Lotus Notes 8 (Standard Configuration) embedded client?

Sametime users seeking information about adding new emoticons and about managing palettes in the client should refer to "Using and managing Sametime emoticons."
For the default location of these emoticon files, consult the following:
Windows

C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\Data\Workspace\
.metadata\.plugins\com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.palettes\palettes\<new name>
Linux

The custom emoticon palette is managed from the user interface in the following location:
Click Preferences -> Sametime -> Emoticon palette.
