If the battery has not been changed in 2 years the message is presented and the battery needs to be changed as noted in the books linked in Part 1 in this document.

Part 3: Hint and tips for replacing the battery:

This part lists very important hints and tips to consider when replacing the battery.

  • Make sure the battery orientation is correct before placing in the appliance. This can cause the appliance to move to an unresponsive state and need to be replaced. Double check the orientation of the positive and negative terminals of the existing battery in the battery holder. Insert the positive terminal into the holder first. The battery will fit tightly in the battery holder.
  • When replacing the battery follow all the information on product safety and replacement instructions in the product publication and additional information in this document.
  • Before you replace the battery, you should make sure you have a back up of the configuration of the appliance. See Backing up, exporting and importing the configuration of an IBM WebSphere DataPower SOA Appliance.
  • You should plan to replace the CR2 3.0V battery within one month of when the message first appears. Also check the battery installation date, if the two-year lifecycle of the battery has expired, replace the battery.
  • The battery is hot-swappable as described in the books
  • If the output of the sensor displays or CLI commands to test hardware show 0 for Voltage Battery, the battery is not seated correctly in the device.
  • If after changing the battery, the Alarm LED and the Battery LED do not turn off, and the CLI commands:
    config
    test hardware
Do not show the battery is missing then power off the appliance, unplug the electrical connection for 60 seconds, reconnect the electrical connection, power on the appliance. The LEDs show now be off.
