DB2 does not automatically restart after restart on Unix system

 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
On some systems, after the IBM® InfoSphere™ Information Server suite is installed and the machine is restarted, DB2 does not start automatically.

Symptom
Attempts to connect to the database returns the error:
SQL1032N No start database manager command was issued. SQLSTATE=57019

or the WebSphere SystemOut.log contains errors similar to the following:
[10/14/08 7:22:18:428 MDT] 0000000a LTPAServerObj E SECJ0369E: Authentication failed when using LTPA. The exception is Unable to begin a transaction: [Error opening repository: [CoreRepositoryBindingFactory: Error creating an instance of the implementation class for ISandboxBinding.]].

Cause
If you pre-installed DB2, you may not have issued the db2iauto command to automatically start the instance.

The Suite Installer does issue the db2iauto command, but for some environments, this command is insufficient and a manual set up is required.

Diagnosing the problem
Run
  • ps -ef | grep db2fm
If you do not see the db2fmd process listed, you do not have the fault monitor configured correctly.

Run
  • su - db2inst1
  • . ./sqllib/profile
  • db2fm -s -S
If the output from the command is not similar to the following, you are not correctly configured for autostart:

Gcf module 'fault monitor' state is AVAILABLE
Gcf module '/home/db2inst1/sqllib/lib/libdb2gcf.so' state is AVAILABLE

Resolving the problem
See the support document titled How to use fault monitors to automatically restart DB2 UDB instances at http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21209001.

If the steps in that document do not solve the problem, try the following command from the root ID:
  • /opt/IBM/db2/V9/bin/db2greg -clean

Reboot.

If DB2 still does not autostart, contact IBM Customer Support.
