Abstract

IBM Installation Manager 1.x add-on to IBM Support Assistant Workbench extends the workbench search, support, and service components. Additionally, it provides automatic diagnostic data collection for IBM Installation Manager 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 releases.

IBM Support Assistant (ISA) is a cross-product extensible client application that increases your capacity for self-help by making it easier to access support resources. ISA allows you to add add-ons for the IBM products you use, creating a customized support experience for your configuration.


Once ISA is installed, you can use its Update capabilities to include the new IBM Installation Manager 1.x Add-on to ISA. This add-on supports IBM Installation Manager 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3.

You can :

  • Quickly access information on about IBM Installation Manager
  • Search through all IBM technical resources.
  • View and manage a play list of IBM Education Assistant modules within the Media viewer.
  • Collect data to needed for troubleshooting. The description of collectors are as follows:
    • IBM Installation Manager Collector - This collection gathers data necessary to debug general installation problems on both Windows and Linux platform. For more information - please refer to technote 1321795 for more information.
  • Open and manage problem report through "Manage Service Request", where the tool will guide you through the recommended steps that you should take before engaging IBM Support.

Prerequisites

IBM Support Assistant Workbench V4.1.0 application or higher.

Installation Instructions

To install the IBM Installation Manager 1.x add-on for IBM Support Assistant:

    1. Start IBM Support Assistant Workbench
    2. Select Update > Find new > Product Add-ons from the menu.
    3. Expand the Others
    4. Select IBM Installation Manager 1.x and click Next.
    5. Click Next again.
    6. Select I accept the terms in the license agreements and click Next.
    7. Click Finish.
    8. Click Finish again and click Yes to restart ISA.

If you've already IBM Installation Manager 1.1 add-on installed previously, you can pick up the updates:
    1. Start IBM Support Assistant Workbench
    2. Select Update > Find Updates to Add-ons from the menu.
    3. Select IBM Installation Manager 1.x and click Next.
    4. Select I accept the terms in the license agreements and click Next.
    5. Click Finish.
    6. Click Finish again and click Yes to restart ISA.
