Question
How to change default server security realm?
 
Cause
The default IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition uses a Property File Realm called geronimo-admin, the default Console Realm User is system, belongs to Console Realm Group admin. The users and groups information is stored under <WASCE_HOME>/var/security/groups.properties and <WASCE_HOME>/var/security/users.properties.
 
Answer

To change the default security realm, the following steps need to be performed.

1. Set up security realm. From Console Navigation click Security Realm, type in Name for new Security Realm and select Realm Type.

The sample application, ldap-realm provide examples for LDAP setting for different LDAP servers.
The sample application can be downloaded from Community Edition download site.

2. Download the source from Apache Geronimo download since you cannot download the WebSphere Application Server Community Edition source code.

3. When you build the server from source, the plan file will be generated to configs\webconsole-tomcat\target\plan\plan.xml. This plan file can be edited to change the realm-name from "geronimo-admin" to "my-new-realm" plus other changes to role-mapping and then redeploy applications\console\geronimo-console-ear\target\geronimo-console-ear-2.0.1.ear using this edited plan file.
