Question & Answer
Question
How do you set the time-out period for a floating license of an IBM® Rational® product?
Answer
To change the time-out period, create the following text file:
rational.opt in the <rational_dir>\common directory.
Enter one of the following two commands in the text file:
1. TIMEOUT feature seconds directs the license server to reclaim the feature (the product as it is listed in your license key file) after the number of seconds that you enter into the file.
Example:
TIMEOUT RequisitePro 7200
TIMEOUT RationalSuiteEnterprise 10800
2. TIMEOUTALL seconds directs the license server to reclaim all products after the number of seconds that you enter into the file.
Example:
TIMEOUTALL 7200
The value for each of these options must be greater than 7200 second (120 minute). The minimum value for the IBM Rational Common Licensing time-out setting differs from the value used by IBM Rational ClearCase Licensing time-out setting.
Please note that for the Rational License Server Version 7.0.1.0 or 7.0.1.1 for Windows OS there is a FixPak that you can apply to reduce the time out value from 2 hours to 30 minutes. See technote:4020478
Reminder: IBM Rational ClearCase LT licenses do not have time-out periods. They operate with longer times. For further information see technote:1206208 .
