Issues with running scans using the Scan Scheduler

List of issues related to running scans using the Scan Scheduler for IBM Rational AppScan Standard Edition.


Scheduled scans created using the Scan Scheduler in IBM Rational AppScan Standard fail to start or work correctly.

Resolving the problem

Check the following entries to see if the below information helps to resolve your issue:

  1. Windows Scheduled Task Service

    Open the Scheduled Task log file in C:\WINDOWS\SchedLgU.Txt to see if it contains any error messages. More information on the data contained in this file can be found by viewing this Microsoft Support document, 308558 (formerly Q308558).

  2. Using Microsoft Windows 2003 Server

    If you are running Rational AppScan Standard on a Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, there is a known issue where non-administrator users cannot set scheduled tasks. The following error message appears if this is the case:

    AppScan was unable to set the scheduled scan

    Make sure to login to the sever using an administrator account when setting scheduled tasks / scans.

  3. User Accounts

    Check to see what type of account you are using to login with. It is not possible to run a batch job on a server under the context of a regular domain user account. It must be under an administrator user account, and part of the administrator group on the machine.

  4. Permissions

    Try to create a scheduled task to check if you have enough permissions:

    Control panel > Scheduled tasks > Add scheduled Task

    and proceed through the wizard and try to activate a program such as notepad.exe.

    If this succeeds, try to activate AppScanScheduler.exe in the AppScan Standard installation folder (by default: C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational AppScan). If the user got the following error message:

    Unable to start task (Error #:0x80070005: Access is denied)
