Example from IBM Redbooks publication "Using Domino Workflow does not transfer binder doc info as expected

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem

You follow the instructions in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of the IBM Redbooks publication Using Domino Workflow. You find that Prototype 3 does not transfer the binder document information to the ResearchRequest form as expected for Lotus Workflow 6.5.1 or 7.0.

Symptom

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a job using BasicScenario3. Choose Save&Complete.
2. Claim the job created in Step 1. Choose "Add Document".
3. None of the fields in the ResearchRequest form are populated.

The section labeled "Third Prototype More Difficult" on page 103 has you create another form that adds an additional binder document. You also follow the instructions on page 107 and 110. The information on page 107 indicates that the binder document information will be inherited, but it is not.

Cause

The information in this book does not apply for later release of Lotus Workflow.

Resolving the problem

The Using Domino Workflow IBM Redbooks publication was written for an older version of the Workflow product, specifically Domino Workflow 2.0. Since then, the product has been renamed to Lotus Workflow and its functions changed and improved. This example will not work with currently supported versions of Lotus Workflow.

When Lotus Workflow 6.5.1 was introduced, the formula language used in this area of the product was changed to LotusScript. For the book example, information is inherited only if formula language is used to create the document. Because LotusScript is now used to create the document, the inheritance will no longer work.
