Browser Enablement Diagnostic Tool gives JVM error

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to enable Internet Explorer in IBM Rational Functional Tester (RFT) result in Java Virtual Machine (JVM) errors.

Symptom

The RFT Browser Enablement Diagnostic Tool says that you did not enable any JVM in the browser. RFT cannot test any web application.

Cause

The process iexplore.exe does not run as a separate process, but under the process of explore.exe . The consequence is that RFT cannot discover any enabled JVM.

Resolving The Problem

Verify if the Windows Task Manager shows iexplore.exe, while Internet Explorer is running. If the Task Manager does not display iexplore.exe as a separate process, consider the following steps.

  1. Verify if the following Windows Registry key has the value Yes.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
    Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\BrowseNewProcess

  2. Restart Internet Explorer and RFT.

  3. Verify that you enabled your browser properly with the Browser Enablement Diagnostic Tool.
