Unwanted messages at NPM log-on.

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Messages FNM088W, FNM269I and many others may occur at NPM logon. Most are routine and of no importance.

Answer

Many messages may appear at NPM logon, too many to list.

Messages FNM088W and FNM269I are being routed to the NPM log. However, if the profile which you use when logging onto NPM, includes 'GLOBAL=YES' they will be routed to your user ID as well. Since most users aren't interested in unrelated tasks, it is wise to use a profile with 'GLOBAL=NO' in your profile. Any error messages related to your activity or commands that you issue will be routed to your userid. However, unrelated system messages would go to the NPM SYSPRINT log and not to your userid. In the case of these messages they indicate that collection was started on an application which isn't active currently. Message FNM269I indicates that NPM will collect the application when it becomes available. There can be a large number of these system messages issued in some cases. While they can be useful when working on a problem of missing data but they can be a bother if your aren't.
