FINDSTRING entries in the Notes client notes.ini file

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem

You find a number of FINDSTRING entries in the notes.ini file for your Lotus Notes® client. These parameters are named thusly:

FINDSTRING0
FINDSTRING1
FINDSTRING2

And so on up to four FINDSTRING entries. What is the purpose of these parameters?

Resolving the problem

The FINDSTRING notes.ini parameters are actually placeholders for search strings. Each time you do initiate a search in Notes by pressing CTRL+F, the string you input is saved to a FINDSTRING entry in the notes.ini.

For example, if you press CTRL+F and search for "Boat", FINDSTRING0=Boat will be written to the notes.ini file. Another query of "Dog" would result in FINDSTRING1=Dog.

These parameters are not deleted from the notes.ini, rather, the search attempts cycle through the four iterations of the FINDSTRING entries.
