Prerequisites for recording Rational Robot scripts on Windows Vista, 7 and 2008

Technote (FAQ)

Question

What is necessary to record GUI scripts with IBM Rational Robot under Microsoft Windows that uses User Access Control (UAC)?

Cause

IBM Rational Robot does not record scripts with enabled UAC. This is a product limitation.

Answer

You have two options.

  1. Disable UAC.

  2. Grant all the privileges and permissions to rtjrn.exe and rtrobo.exe in the <rational test> folder in Beyond Trust,

Do the following steps for OPTION A.

  1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy.

  2. In the Local Security Settings window, expand the Local Policies topic group and click Security Options.

  3. Disable the security settings for User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode.

  4. Restart your computer.

REMARKS ON OPTION B

The Beyond Trust Privilege Manager allows standard users to run applications that require administrator privileges with UAC enabled without any prompts. However, the UAC enabled option prevents Rational Robot from recording scripts.
