How do you change Rational ClearCase clients and license server configuration between Atria and FLEXlm licensing on UNIX and Linux?

Answer

Switching from ClearCase licensing (Atria) to IBM Common licensing (FLEXlm / FLEXnet).

To switch from Atria licensing to FLEXlm/ FLEXnet licensing, follow these steps:
  1. Identify the name of the FLEXlm license server host.
  2. On the client machine, stop Rational ClearCase.
  3. Copy the file /opt/rational/clearcase/config/rcl/flexlm_host.template to /var/adm/rational/clearcase/config directory and rename it as flexlm_host.
  4. Verify that this file has read access for all users.
  5. Open the file and replace the word "hostname" with the name of the FLEXlm license server host.
  6. If you still have a copy of the flexlm_host.template file, delete it.
  7. Restart Rational ClearCase. The license must be checked out from the specific FLEXlm license server.

Switching from IBM Common licensing (FLEXlm / FLEXnet) to ClearCase licensing (Atria).

To switch from FLEXlm licensing to Atria licensing, follow these steps:
  1. Identify the name of the License Key Server host that will serve the ClearCase licenses.
  2. Stop Rational ClearCase.
  3. Go to the /var/admin/rational/clearcase/config directory.
  4. Create a file titled license_host. Open it and add the IBM License Key Server host name on the first line.
  5. Remove the flexlm_host file.
  6. Restart Rational ClearCase.
NOTE: additional information regarding the syntax to use on the "flexlm_host" file: If multiple license servers are used, then the server line will have to be in the format "SERVER <port>@<hostname1>:<port>@hostame2>:... ANY", where the individual <port@hostname>'s are separated by a colon.
