IBM Support

AOSIM event abends now controlled by ABENDLIM

Troubleshooting

Problem

The ABENDLIM startup parameter abend limit only applied to abends in WTO or CMD SSI processing. Abends occurring in SIM events were not being handled.

Symptom

Repeated abends in AF's simulated events processing (SIM) were not being catered for by the ABENDLIM option. SIM event processing was never disabled even after repeated abends.

Resolving The Problem

AOSIM is a program that provides a way to pass messages and commands from third-party or user written programs to OMEGACENTER Gateway. The command and WTO exits that OMEGACENTER Gateway provide use AOSIM to pass the events over.

With PTF UA35127, a SIM event option has been added to ABENDLIM processing. SIM event trapping will be disabled when a threshold number of abends are experienced in that process.

A new SIM(nn) option has been added to the ABENDLIM startup parameter in order to disable SIM events if their abend limit is reached. (nn can be 1 to 99.)
ABENDLIM(WTO(nn),CMD(nn),SIM(nn),WARNING)

See the AF Configuration and Customization Guide for more information about the ABENDLIM parameter.

The AF SIM/NOSIM command can be used to enable or disable SIM event processing. SIM events are also included when enabling or disabling events through the AF SSIRESET/SSIDRAIN command.
Reenabling SIM events through either AF SIM or AF SSIRESETwill reset the SIM event abend counter to zero.

See the AF Command Reference Manual for more information about the AF command.

The status of SIM event monitoring, the SIM abend limit and the current abend count are now shown as part of the 'Options in effect' display.

Two new system variables have been created to contain the SIM event abend limit and the current abend count. These are AOABLSIM and AOABCSIM respectively.

Two new messages are added:

!AOP0987 ssss SIM EVENT PROCESSING SUSPENDED. ABEND LIMIT EXCEEDED.
EXPLANATION: The upper limit for abends in SIM event processing (which defaults to 5) has been
reached. Where ssss identifies the subsystem where the problem has occurred.

SYSTEM ACTION: SIM event processing is suspended.

USER RESPONSE: You can enable SIM event processing again using the AF SSIRESET or AF SIM command.

!AOP0988 ssss SIM EVENT ABEND THRESHOLD WARNING

EXPLANATION: The abend count in SSI processing for SIM events has reached 50 percent or more. Where ssss identifies the subsystem where the abend count has reached the threshold.

SYSTEM ACTION: Processing continues.

USER RESPONSE: This message is produced in advance of SSI processing being suspended. See associated message AOP0987 for further information.
