Opening a TestManager log causes an application error

This technote explains how to resolve an Application Error that might occur when using IBM® Rational® TestManager®.


After playing back a Rational XDE Tester script, you get an application error when trying to open up the TestManager log. The error says:

Rational TestManager - Application Error
The instruction at "0x73dd1351" referenced memory at "0x00000004".  The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

When you click OK, Windows forces TestManager to close.


This situation can occur by running XDE Tester on the local machine and playing back the script, and running TestManager from another local machine and playing back the script on a remote machine at the same time.

Resolving the problem

This type of situation can cause the TestManager log to not have a valid Suite End log event. Therefore, TestManager cannot handle it. The only resolution is to delete this log and rerun the script but to make sure that the script is only being run from one machine.
